Designing a safer, stronger, and more resilient future for the Alphabet Streets. As a professional architect, mother, and neighbor rebuilding alongside you after the Palisades Fire, I am running to bring proven leadership and thoughtful planning to Area 5. Together, we will champion transparent rebuilding, secure our infrastructure, and ensure that the voices of our community serve as the foundation for every decision we make.

Open to all residents of Area Five or the Alphabet neighborhood.

PPCC Area 5 Description

North side of Sunset Boulevard from Temescal Canyon Road to Rivas Canyon Road and portions of Topanga State Park, including the following:

1. The western boundary is Temescal Canyon Road north of Sunset Blvd. and Temescal Canyon Trail.
2. The northern boundary is Topanga State Park.
3. The eastern boundary is Will Rogers Rogers State Park continuing south to encompass all properties on Marinette Road and on the east side of Chautauqua Blvd., including Gallaudet Place to Sunset Blvd.
4. The southern boundary is Sunset Blvd. from upper Chautauqua to Temescal Canyon Road.

If you are temporarily living elsewhere because of the fire but plan to return home, you can still vote - the online ballot will ask you to confirm this.

  • Hi Palisades Friends and Neightbors! The post fire years have been challenging and so many Pals in the Palisades have stepped up to lead, facilitate and improve our rebuild processes. In the Before Times I never crossed paths with May Sung. Now I can't imagine my Palisades community without her. May has helped to create a Team Alphabets group and the best, most informative weekly zoom meeting that could not have existed, let alone continue to grow without her diligence, expertise, humor, patience and persuasion. The amount of time she has, behind the scenes, dedicated to answering questions, communicating our priorities with officials, and following up on every detail that matters most to our neighborhood has been inspiring. As our Team Palisades Alphabets Neighborhood Rep, she runs our block captains meetings with focus, humor, and efficiency—never wasting our time, always moving us forward. She's the neighbor who shows up to help first, and the advocate who sits across the table from DWP, local officials, and infrastructure crews to push our rebuild along.   • May Sung is highly qualified to serve as the Pacific Palisades Community Council Area 5 Representative and we fully recommend her. She has shown excellent leadership skills and professional knowledge as the leader of the Team Palisades Alphabet Streets Block Captains. As one example, she has led the community effort to underground the electrical power. Every week she leads a Zoom Meeting for the Alphabet Streets Block Captains, where she provides updates on important community issues and answers questions. As an architect who is active in building homes in the Palisades, her knowledge of the building process, and her relationships with city officials, have been a big help. When she took the job to lead the Alphabet streets block captains, there was no specific job description. She invented the job during a period of high stress and uncertainty in the community. She also encouraged people to participate in building the Alphabet Streets Float in the fourth of July parade, which was a nice morale boost for the community. Her combination of leadership skills, architectural skills, and concern for the community recommend her highly for the position of PPPCC Area 5 Rep.

A resident of Hartzell Street in the Alphabets, May is a licensed architect and principal of SUBU Design Architecture. Specializing in custom residential projects with interior and landscape design, she offers the Council the kind of expertise and experience that is most needed as the community faces complex issues like permitting, undergrounding, utility conversion, street lighting, security, zone zero landscaping, flood prevention and so much more. May is in demand as a featured speaker on local Palisades rebuilding and recovery panels. She is a founding member of Team Palisades and the leader of Team Alphabest (not a typo!) where she motivates and orchestrates a dispersed community to come together for connection, resilience and mutual aid. She is not just a leader – she walks the walk. You can find her in attendance at every event, whether dressed for success to meet government dignitaries or wearing a lime green safety vest as she clears parkways of combustible brush. When anyone praises her extraordinary volunteerism, she reminds them that she is merely paying forward what she would be doing for her own home– why not extend that care and knowledge to the neighborhood? It does, after all, take a village. I have volunteered myself – from parent boards at Pali Elementary, Paul Revere and Pali High, to the committee that brought charter schools to the Palisades and the Olympic pool to the high school. I am the co-founder of Cool Block Embury, a community preparedness block founded (presciently!) in 2021, and now a Block Captain on Team Alphabest.
